Ben Paxton, 2009 Evansville Otters’ rookie, was recognized last week by Baseball America making the Independent League Top Prospects List.
Paxton, native of St. Albans, WV, was a true rookie in 2009 out of Western Kentucky University. He appeared in 27 games for Evansville last season, posting a 1-1 record with four saves and a 1.12 ERA on 40.1 innings. Before allowing four runs in his last outing of the season, Paxton had his ERA down to 0.23 for the year.
Paxton was fourth on the top ten list. Also on the top ten list was Gateway Grizzlies Newcomer of the Year, Joe Agreste who was ranked seventh. Along with Paxton and Agreste, Windy City's Ross Stout, Lake Erie's Eddie Tisdale and Alberto Rolon, and Kalamazoo's Josh Short were among the eight players listed as "Others to watch" by Baseball America. The Frontier League players mentioned are more than for any of the other independent leagues.
