On Tuesday, it’s Beach Day with the ballpark featuring a tropical theme, coconut drinks at concessions and a lei giveaway for early arriving fans at the gates. There will also be a beach-themed photo booth! It’s a $2 Tuesday with general admission tickets and select concession items just $2.
Evansville (40-31) currently sits four games behind Florence in the West Division as the Otters are hoping to cut the deficit in the standings with a series victory.
The Otters are 3-3 against the Freedom so far this season. Florence took the first series between the two clubs in early June, winning two of three in Kentucky. Evansville evened the season record at the beginning of July by taking two of three at Bosse Field.
Evansville is coming off of a 3-2 road trip this past week at Normal and River City. The Otters split two games with the Cornbelters as the series finale was suspended. From there, Evansville went on to win two of three over the weekend against the Rascals.
John Schultz hit three home runs against the Rascals while driving in seven runs. Schultz also earned his 200th career RBI for the Otters with a three-run home run in Saturday’s game.
After a pair of home runs against the Rascals, Evansville’s Jeff Gardner is the first player in the Frontier League to reach 20 home runs this season. Gardner is three home runs away from the Otters’ single-season record of 23, which was set in 2014 by Shayne Houck.
Dane Phillips has reached base in 21 consecutive games while Josh Allen’s on-base streak stands at 15 games.
Left-hander Hunter Ackerman will start the series opener Tuesday against the Freedom. Ackerman has lost his last two starts after winning six consecutive decisions. In his last start, Ackerman allowed three runs off 12 hits in seven innings at Normal.
Florence (45-28) is in first place in the West Division but is coming off a series loss against the Southern Illinois Miners over the weekend.
Offensively, Florence has four starters in their lineup hitting above .300.
Jordan Brower has a .325 batting average with a league-leading 27 doubles and 47 RBIs. Jose Brizuela is batting .321 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs.
The Freedom will send right-hander Steve Hagen to the mound on Tuesday. Hagen was acquired via trade recently from the Lake Erie Crushers. Hagen was 4-4 with a 4.43 ERA with the Crushers before earning his first win with the Freedom last week at River City.
Hagen earned the win against the Rascals after allowing three runs in seven innings.
