The Evansville Otters are the first team to win 800 games in Frontier League history.

(NORMAL, ILLINOIS) – The first place Evansville Otters (7-3) were the first place in the Frontier League to win 800 games after their 13 – 4 victory at the Normal CornBelters (3-7) on Tuesday night.

A seven run first inning fueled the Otters historic victory. Facing pitcher Michael Schweiss, first baseman Nik Balog hit a two run ground rule double to center field for the 2-0 advantage. The Otters took advantage of another error later in the inning to score two more runs and a Josh Allen RHI single put Evansville up seven.

After Normal answered with a run in the bottom of the first, Evansville responded with three more runs in the second. Infielder Shayne Houck hit a two run home run to left field and Nik Balog followed with solo home run against reliever Jason Postill. It was first time the Otter hit back to back home runs this season, guiding Evansville to a 10-1 lead.

Evansville tacked on another third with a John Schultz solo home run and handed an 11-1 lead to their pitcher Preston Olson (1-0). The right-handed earned his first victory with the Otters, yielding four runs in 6.0 innings.

Up 11-4, Schultz added another two run double in the ninth as pitcher Brandon Shimo, making his professional debut, pitched the last 3.0 innings for the save.

Schultz finished the game 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored, and three runs batted in. Houck ended the night 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and two RBIs. Balog brought his batting average up to .281 with a 3-for-3 night, with a home run, three runs scored, and three RBIs.

Evansville will look for a season-best four game winning streak on Wednesday night when they continue their series against the Normal Cornbelters. The Otters will have right-hander Zach Petersime (1-1, 1.50 ERA) on the mound against CornBelters righty Ethan Elias (0-1, 5.23 ERA).

First pitch is set for 7:00 pm CT.

Fans not attending the game can listen live to the Evansville Otters broadcast on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will have the call beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 pm CT.
