The Otters defeated the Windy City Thunderbolts 14-5 Monday at Standard Bank Stadium behind a 2 home run, 5 RBI performance by Luke Hetherington.
Hetherington, on only his fourth game as an Otter, hit a three run homer in the top of the first for a 3-0 lead.
The Thunderbolts battled back to tie the game at 4-4 after three innings. Evansville would score ten times over the next three innings to pull away.
Five runs came across in the fourth off of three walks, a Greg Alexander run scoring fielder’s choice, and a pair of 2 RBI singles from Kevin Mackey and Andre Liscinsky.
In the fifth inning, Hetherington hit his second home run, a two-run moon shot over the left field wall.
Frank Meade got into the act in the sixth inning, lining a two-run double down the left field line with two outs to plate runs 13 and 14 for Evansville.
Andrew Werner earned the win in relief. Werner (2-0) pitched five innings, surrendering only one run on four hits. He took over for spot starter Nick Utley, who gave up four runs in three innings. Utley was stating for the injured Rashad Ford.
Thunderbolts’ starter Brandon Garner (2-3) was chased after allowing nine runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
The three game series concludes Tuesday at 11:05 pm CDT.
