OTTERS SIGN SANCHEZ

01/25/2010 3:19 PM - Jose Sanchez is the most recent addition to the 2010 Evansville Otters baseball team.  Sanchez, 22, is a right-handed shortstop from San Cristobal, Venezuela.  Sanchez began his college career at Alfred State Junior College in New York, and finished it at D-I Delaware State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Sanchez's collegiate years were marked with multiple successes, with the most notable being named a 2009 Wallace Watch National Player of the Year Candidate.  In 2008, he was an All-MEAC second-team selection.  That same year he was named the most valuable player of the New York Collegiate League All-Star Game. 

Sanchez hit .347 with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 49 games as a junior in 2008.  In 45 games as a senior in 2009, he hit .291 with 28 RBIs while committing only seven errors.

In two years at Alfred State, Sanchez hit .364 in 113 games.  He scored 134 runs, drove in 98, and hit nine home runs.
