First baseman Jonathan Waltenbury, Minnesota’s 7th round choice in the 2006 amateur draft, has signed a 2010 contract with the Evansville Otters.
Waltenbury, 22, played three seasons in the Twins’ minor league organization before being released. Last year he hit .236 with five home runs and 38 RBIs in 109 games with the Beloit Snappers, Minnesota’s Class A affiliate in the Midwest League. In 2008 Waltenbury, a Canadian, hit .319 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs for Elizabethtown of the Appalachian League.
