(FLORENCE, KY) – The Evansville Otters scored five runs in the 7th inning and Eduardo Perez pitched eight innings as the Otters defeated the Florence Freedom on the road 6-1.
Estee Harris blooped a single to left field handing Evansville the 2-1 lead and Frank Meade greeted the new reliever with a 3-run home run to go ahead 5-1.
Early on, the game had the feel of an old-style pitcher’s duel as Freedom starter Bryan Banes and Eduardo Perez battled each other to see who would crack first.
Banes actually took a no-hitter into the sixth inning until first baseman Jon Waltenbury broke it up with a two out single.
The only Florence Freedom run scored in the second inning on an RBI double from Justin Jacobs.
Robert Romero recorded the final three outs in the win for the Evansville Otters.
Evansville improves to 3-5 with the win and even up the series at one game apiece. The Florence Freedom drop to 2-6 and fall into last place in the West Division.
Eduardo Perez is the winning pitcher after tossing eight innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Perez also struck out eight batters in his first win of the season. Bryan Banes took the loss as he allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Both teams will meet again tomorrow in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM EST (5:05 PM CST).
Otters fans can tune into the broadcast locally on WUVE 91.5 FM or by listening on line to the WUVE stream. Mike Radomski will have the play by play beginning at 5:50 PM EST.
