Rodriguez will play his first game in an Otters unfirom on Saturday in Paducah, Kentucky.
(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) – The Evansville Otters added another outfielder on Friday with the signing of Florida native Ryde Rodriguez.
An all-around player, Rodriguez boasts a .274 career batting average and also has 25 outfield assists. The Otters like his athleticism on a number of different levels.
“Ryde has a strong arm in the outfield and can play any position out there,” said Kevin Cope, the Director of Player Personnel for the Evansville Otters. “He is also a threat in the lineup with his power potential.”
Rodriguez started in the St. Louis Cardinals for his first three seasons but ended last year with the Rockland of the Canadian-American Association. With the Boulders, Ryde hit .259 with 4 home runs, 11 doubles, and 30 runs batted in.
The Otters also placed outfielder Greg Alexander on the suspended list on Friday. Alexander has been with Evansville for the last three seasons but chose to take and complete college classes this spring.
After holding their first practice on Friday, the Otters will play the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday. First pitch for the exhibition game is 7:05 pm. at Brooks Stadium in Paducah, Kentucky.
